#Roma On December 8th is the religious feast of the “Immaculate Conception” dogma of faith proclaimed by Pope Pius IX in 1854.
On the occasion of this event, a column bearing a statue of the Virgin was placed in Piazza Mignanelli, next to Piazza di Spagna in 1857.
The column comes from Roman excavations, while the statue was sculpted by G.Obici.
The statue was erected with the help of 220 firefighters and for this reason still today the firefighters depose some flowers to the Madonna on that feast.
This anniversary is very dear to the Roman people and every year the Pope attends the ceremony.
